April 10, 2017

Dear Sutton Family,

Welcome back from what I hope was a great Spring Break for everyone! We truly are in the final stretches of the school year, and it will go fast. Please read the information below and notify the school if you have any questions.

Impacts from the 85 Construction: APS will begin all morning bus routes 15 minutes early for the remainder of the school year. Please be certain your child is at their bus stop so that they do not miss the bus. The instructional day will remain the same, but there will be supervision provided for buses that arrive earlier than usual. If you drive your child to school, it is encouraged that you also leave 15 minutes earlier to accommodate possible traffic delays. Traffic delays are not considered an excused tardy unless your student is on a school bus. Afternoon dismissal is currently scheduled to proceed as normal. If there are changes, I will let you know.  Do be aware though that buses may arrive home in the afternoon later than usual.

Milestone Testing: Milestone Testing begins this week and continues through next week with the following schedule.

Wednesday, 4/12/17 - 7th & 8th Grades – ELA/Writing Section

Thursday, 4/13/17 - 7th & 8th Grades - English Language Arts

Friday, 4/14/17 - 7th & 8th Grades - Math (except 8th graders in Algebra 1)

Monday, 4/17/17 - 8th Grade - Science

Tuesday, 4/18/17 - 8th Grade - Social Studies

Wednesday, 4/19/17 - 6th Grade – ELA/Writing Section

Thursday, 4/20/17 - 6th Grade - English Language Arts

Friday, 4/21/17 - 6th Grade - Math

It is imperative that your child is present on time every single day for testing. Our anticipated start time (pending bus arrivals) is 9:15 am, so please be certain your child is at school at 9:00 am. If your child arrives after a test has begun, they will NOT be permitted to test and will be scheduled for a make-up exam.

Finally, there are absolutely no check outs of students during any testing days. Because the end time for testing differs each day and can change for a variety of reasons, please make arrangements for your student to remain in school all day over the testing period. At the Northside Campus there will be no check outs for 7th grade students on the days that 8th grade is testing. This is due to relocations of many classes and the inability to interrupt any testing. Further, do not bring items during testing days as we will be unable to send for your child to pick them up from the main office.

Despite any indication from your adolescent or others, the instructional program at Sutton Middle School continues following testing each day and throughout the remainder of the school year. Sutton Middle School will be providing engaging, relevant instruction in every class through May so it is important that you do not plan any unnecessary absences or events that will take your child out of school.

We have year-end activities planned for each grade level that include Honors and Awards Days and other celebratory events. Notification of these events will be further communicated and on our website.

Sincerely,

Gail Johnson
