Greetings,

The Office of High Schools website was established to focus on disseminating information to you - "our parents, staff and partners."

The purpose is to keep you abreast of district-wide initiatives, activities and professional development opportunities within the High Schools.

As you know in 2006 Atlanta Public Schools officially launched the High School Transformation Initiative (HSTI). We are excited to have a new team in place and they are moving the HSTI work at a steady pace to ensure that the students of Atlanta Public Schools have a world class education and post-secondary opportunities.

The mission is to provide small, personalized learning environments that include rigorous and challenging career focused themes that meet the needs of the students, parents and the community. Our goals associated with the High School Transformation Initiatives are as follows:
  1. Graduate at least 90% of incoming 9th graders in four years
  2. Ensure Atlanta Public Schools are the first choice for students and parents who reside in the district
  3. Provide a world class educational experience
  4. Ensure our students are prepared for post secondary options and/or the workforce In order to achieve these goals district- wide, high schools have been or will be transformed into small learning communities or small schools. While maintaining a rigorous preparatory curriculum as its core these small learning communities/small schools embedded exciting career focused themes such as (but not limited to) Banking & Finance, Engineering & Applied Technology, Health Sciences & Research, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.
The journey to excellence in high schools through the transformation process will yield a high quality educational experience for students in every neighborhood across Atlanta.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Abigail Crawford
Interim Associate Superintendent
