Dear Parents, Students and Community,
The school year has gotten off to a great start. By now, students know summer is officially over and it’s time to buckle down and focus on school work. During the first week of school, I met with all students and shared my expectations with them. It is imperative that we promote a comfortable and welcoming environment in which our students and teachers feel safe, respected and competent.
If you have a concern regarding your child's attendance, grades, performance or discipline, please communicate with the teacher first and then with the administration. Teachers are more than willing to speak and conference with you.
My philosophy as an educational leader is, “everything rises and falls on leadership.” Throughout my career, I have repeatedly built a thriving learning atmosphere through implementing best practices in student achievement, teacher advocacy and proactive parent communication in a safe and respectful environment.
Again, I am honored to serve as Principal of Jean Childs Young Middle School. I am fortunate to have been granted the opportunity to work in such a caring and compassionate community; one which recognizes "one size does not fit all" when educating our youth. I respect each student’s uniqueness and I will make every effort to create an educational environment that ensures success for every student. I know it is vital to have a collaborative partnership with parents and the community in order to provide a school culture where nurturing, communication, and student achievement thrive.
Sincerely,
Kelvin L. Griffin, Ph.D.
Principal
